The value of good work
Workshops Inc. (now Workshops Empowerment, Inc.) is a 120+ year old Birmingham institution benefitting people with disabilities by providing handwork and fulfillment jobs, workforce training, and retail goods creation jobs through their attached mercantile.
In 2020, Workshops Inc. won the bid for Cayenne Creative’s F.I.T.B. (Fire in the Belly) Initiative, which selects a local organization from a pool of applicants to receive a year of pro-bono branding work. My design team and I had a lot of fun working with such a rewarding client.
Our writers / strategists updated Workshop’s name to Workshops Empowerment, Inc. (abbreviated to WE, Inc.) to highlight the way its participants are empowered in the workforce. Cayenne Creative also did a rebrand for both the main institution and the mercantile store (which was renamed as well to WE Made).
All of the Cayenne designers threw their hats in the ring for this one, and many rounds of review and discussion took place amongst the team. While this brand design delighted the client, they ultimately chose another strong look created by our Creative Director, Dan Murch. I had a wonderful time diving into the Workshops history and methodology when creating this mark and brand, however, and it remains a favorite of mine.
WE, Inc. does some serious good in the Birmingham community, and it was a pleasure to witness our clients’ excitement as we helped them update their brand.
