The gift of life
Legacy of Hope, Alabama’s Organ and Tissue Donation Alliance, was established to facilitate organ and tissue donation around the state. Their mission, in their words, is to “end the wait and the suffering by shepherding the gift of life to those in need of organ and tissue transplants.”
Towards this end, Legacy of Hope seeks to promote awareness of what organ donation actually means, and hopes to ultimately encourage folks to register as donors.
My team at Cayenne Creative was tasked with this awareness goal. We recorded the voices of both donor families and recipients as they spoke of how organ donation affected their lives. These powerful recordings were then linked to QR codes which, if photographed with a smart phone, would play said recordings and allow people to listen immediately. Print pieces with these QR codes went up in DMVs to engage those waiting in line.
We also created an outdoor mural near the Legacy of Hope offices. Social media influencers who aligned with this campaign were recruited to interact with the mural, and thus spread further awareness to their audiences.
I created the illustrations, designed the print materials, and conceived of / designed the mural.

MURAL
When asked for the method behind our mural’s design, I wrote this: “There are few decisions as selfless and simple as becoming an organ donor. It is an act that truly speaks to the generosity of the human spirit. When visualizing this moment for a mural, Legacy of Hope's iconic swallow, itself a symbol of hope, seemed the perfect fit. Our mural gives passersby the opportunity to don the swallow's wings - thus becoming an image of the legacy one can leave if they participate. In this way, we hope to further Legacy of Hope's mission to spread awareness, inspire donor registration, and honor those who have already done so.”
